hypertensive heart disease
Medications
Instructed patient on new medication Sulindac. Sulindac may also be used for purposes not listed. Sulindac can increase your risk of fatal heart
attack or stroke, especially if you use it long term or take high doses, or if you have heart
disease
. Even people without heart
disease
or risk factors could have a stroke or heart
attack while taking this medicine. You should not use sulindac if you are allergic to it, or if you have ever had an asthma attack or severe allergic reaction after taking aspirin or an NSAID. Patient verbalized understanding.
SN instructed patient / caregiver regarding medication Labetalol. SN explained to patient / caregiver that Labetalol is an anti - hypertensive
medication. SN explained that the side effects of this medication includes fatigue, weakness, anxiety, bradycardia and orthostatic hypotension. SN instructed patient / caregiver to notify physician ( MD ) if experiencing persistence or worsening of side effects.
SN instructed patient about the drug lisinopril is a drug of the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor class used primarily in treatment of hypertension ACE is important because it is an enzyme responsible for producing the chemical, angiotensin II. Angiotensin II causes muscles in most arteries, including the arteries of the heart
, to contract, thereby narrowing the arteries and elevating blood pressure. ACE inhibitors such as lisinopril lower blood pressure by reducing the production of angiotensin II, thereby relaxing arterial muscle and enlarging arteries. When the blood pressure is lower, the heart
- including the failing heart
- does not have to work as hard to pump blood. The arteries supplying the heart
with blood also enlarge during treatment with ACE inhibitors. This increases the flow of blood and oxygen to the heart
, further improving the ability of the heart
to pump bloodSide effects include: dizziness due to a drop in blood pressure, trouble breathing, blistering, peeling, red skin rash, confusion, weakness, uneven heart
beat, trouble breathing, numbness or tingling in your hands, feet, or lips, dark urine or pale stools. Pt verbalized understanding.
SN instructed patient and caregiver that Plavix is used to prevent heart
attacks and strokes in persons with heart
disease
, recent stroke and/or blood circulation disease
(peripheral vascular disease
). Easy bleeding/bruising, stomach upset/pain, diarrhea, and constipation may occur.
Isosorbide is used to prevent chest pain (angina) and reduce strain on the heart
in patients with heart
disease
(coronary artery disease
). Isosorbide mononitrate relaxes and widens blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. This medication will not relieve chest pain once it occurs. This medication may also be used in addition to other drugs to improve the symptoms of congestive heart
failure (e.g., trouble breathing).
Lovastatin reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL). Lovastatin is used to lower the risk of stroke, heart
attack, and other heart
complications in people with diabetes, coronary heart
disease
, or other risk factors. Lovastatin can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, leading to kidney failure. This condition may be more likely to occur in older adults and in people who have kidney disease
or poorly controlled hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice, it may interact with lovastatin and lead to unwanted side effects. Avoid the use of grapefruit products while taking lovastatin. Avoid eating foods that are high in fat or cholesterol. Lovastatin will not be as effective in lowering your cholesterol if you do not follow a cholesterol-lowering diet plan. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can raise triglyceride levels and may increase your risk of liver damage. Common side effects may include: constipation, stomach pain; muscle cramps; or headache. You can lower your Cholesterol by avoiding alcohol and avoid eating foods that are high in fat or cholesterol. Eat foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, You can add soluble fiber to your diet by eating oats and fruits, beans, lentils, and vegetables. Exercise on most days of the week and increase your physical activity.
Patient and CG instructed on Pravastatin. Pravastatin is used to lower cholesterol and triglycerides (types of fat) in the blood. Pravastatin is also used to lower the risk of stroke, heart
attack, and other heart
complications in people with or without coronary heart
disease
or other risk factors. Pravastatin can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, leading to kidney failure. This condition may be more likely to occur in older adults and in people who have kidney disease
or poorly controlled hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction to pravastatin: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. In rare cases, pravastatin can cause a condition that results in the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue, leading to kidney failure. Stop using and call your doctor at once if you have:unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness; fever, unusual tiredness; dark colored urine; chest pain; upper stomach pain, loss of appetite; or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes). Common pravastatin side effects may include: muscle or joint pain; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea; headache; or cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat.
SN instructed patient / caregiver regarding Metoprolol Tartrate, which is in a group of drugs called beta - blockers. That is affect the heart
and circulation ( blood flow through arteries and veins ). Metoprolol is used to treat angina ( chest pain ) and hypertension ( high blood pressure ). It is also used to treat or prevent heart
attack. Call your doctor at once if you have any of these serious side effects: chest pain, pounding heart
beats or fluttering in your chest, feeling light - headed, fainting; feeling short of breath, even with mild exertion, swelling of your hands or feet, nausea, upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay - colored stools, jaundice ( yellowing of the skin or eyes ), easy bruising, unusual bleeding ( nose, mouth, vagina, or rectum ), purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin, wheezing, trouble breathing. Less serious side effects may include: dry mouth, constipation, heart
burn, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, drowsiness, tired feeling, sleep problems ( insomnia ), or anxiety, nervousness. Do not suddenly stop taking metoprolol tartrate. Sharp chest pain, irregular heart
beat, and sometimes heart
attack may occur if you suddenly stop metoprolol tartrate. The risk may be greater if you have certain types of heart
disease
. Tell your doctor or dentist that you take metoprolol tartrate before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care or surgery.
Entresto is used to treat certain types of heart
failure. It will help you live longer and stay out of the hospital for heart
failure. Entresto contains 2 medications: sacubitril and valsartan. They work by relaxing blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily, which makes it easier for your heart
to pump blood to your body. Common SE: Coughing, dizziness, or lightheadedness, if this persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly. To reduce the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. Take medication as prescribed to get the better manage the disease
process of Heart
Failure.
SN instructed in possible adverse reactions to Lasix, including dehydration, orthostatic hypotension, loss of potassium and other electrolytes, weakness, and fatigue. Lasix is used to reduce extra fluid in the body (edema) caused by conditions such as heart
failure, liver disease
, and kidney disease
. This can lessen symptoms such as shortness of breath and swelling in your arms, legs, and abdomen. This drug is also used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart
attacks, and kidney problems. Lasix is a "water pill" (diuretic) that causes you to make more urine. This helps your body get rid of extra water and salt.
