Instructed patient drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated helps keep clots from forming.
SN instructed patient and care giver to take Carafate (sucralfate) on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal and avoid taking any other medications within 2 hours before or after you take Carafate. Side effects of Carafate include: nausea, vomiting, GI upset/pain, constipation, diarrhea, insomnia, dizziness, drowsiness or headache.
SN instructed patient/CG to seek medical attention if you have signs of an allergic reaction to Augmentin such as: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Call your doctor at once if you have: severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody; pale or yellowed skin, dark colored urine, fever, confusion or weakness; loss of appetite, upper stomach pain, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); easy bruising or bleeding; little or no urination; or severe skin reaction - fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes, skin pain followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads (especially in the face or upper body) and causes blistering and peeling.
SN to instruct patient Call your doctor or nurse call line now or seek immediate medical care if: you have new or worse symptoms of a kidney infection. These may include: pain or burning when you urinate, a frequent need to urinate without being able to pass much urine, pain in the flank, which is just below the rib cage and above the waist on either side of the back, blood in the urine.
SN to instruct patient change the bandage around the tube, the bolsters, skin barriers, and tube attachments at least every 7 days. If your bandages, barriers, or devices get dirty or wet, change them right away, and as often as needed.
SN to instruct patient Keep the site covered when you shower. Tape a piece of clear adhesive plastic over the dressing to keep it dry while you shower. Do not take tub baths.
Instructed patient always wash your hands before and after changing the bag from the nephrostomy tube. If another person is assisting with changing your bag they must wear disposable gloves and protective eyewear. Ensure that tube is kept straight and not bent to allow proper flow of urine
Instructed patient Keep the dressing (or bandage) clean, dry, and secured to the skin. Do not put lotions or ointments under the dressing. Call your provider right away if you have any of the following: Pain or burning in your shoulder, chest, back, arm, or leg Fever of 100.4?F (38.0?C) or higher Chills Signs of infection at the catheter site (pain, redness, drainage, burning, or stinging)
Nephrostomy tube Instructed patient drink at least 1500mls - 2000mls (6 to 8 glasses of 250mls size) fluid everyday or as advised by the doctor.
Nephrostomy tube Instructed patient do not flush greater than 10 mls of sterile normal saline.
