SN instructed patient and caregiver about certain foods or eating habits are more likely to result in flushing, diarrhea, gas, bloating, and abdominal pain related to carcinoid syndrome. You only need to avoid particular foods if they cause you to have these symptoms. Keeping a food and symptom diary may be helpful. Record your daily food and drink consumption and any symptoms that you experience. You may start to notice a pattern. Carcinoid patients with symptoms should augment protein in their diets, add more tryptophan in the form of lean meats and protein, and avoid high tyramine-containing foods, which can cause flushing, such as hard and aged cheeses, including cheddar and Stilton; cured meats; and some nuts, specifically walnuts, peanuts, coconuts, and Brazil nuts.

Lipitor Teaching 2100

SN instructed patient regarding medication Lipitor. SN informed patient / caregiver that Lipitor is a medication that reduces levels of bad cholesterol ( LDL ) and triglyceride in the blood while increasing the level of good cholesterol ( HDL ). SN explained that this medication is used to treat high cholesterol and to lower risk of stroke, heart attack or other heart complication in people with type 2 diabetes. SN informed patient / caregiver that patient should eat low cholesterol diet and avoid drinking alcoholic beverages when taking lipitor because it increase risk of liver damage. SN explained to patient / caregiver that side effects to watch out for are unexplained muscle pain, fever and dark colored urine, swelling urinating less than usual and weight gain. SN instructed patient / caregiver to report any persistence or worsening of side effects.

Januvia ( Sitagliptin ) Teaching 2117

SN instructed about the use of Januvia ( Sitagliptin ) is used along with diet and exercise and sometimes with other medications to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. It works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances that lower blood sugar when it is high. Over time, people who have diabetes and high blood sugar can develop serious or life - threatening complications, including heart disease, stroke, kidney problems, nerve damage, and eye problems. Taking medication,making lifestyle changes, and regularly checking your blood sugar may help to manage your diabetes and improve your health. This therapy may also decrease your chances of having a heart attack, stroke, or other diabetes - related complications such as kidney failure, nerve damage, eye problems, including changes or loss of vision, or gum disease.

SN instructed patient about treatment of heart failure may include: controlling risk factors: quitting smoking losing weight and increasing moderate exercise restricting salt and fat from the diet avoiding alcohol proper rest controlling blood sugar if diabetic controlling blood pressure limiting fluids.

The main risk factors for developing kidney disease are diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and a family history of kidney failure. You can take steps to protect your kidneys. The most important step you can take to treat kidney disease is to control your blood pressure. Healthy habits can also help you manage your kidney disease.
