Instructed patient how Lovenox is used to reduce the chance of blood clots when another blood thinner is stopped for a short time. For example, if you take warfarin and need surgery, your doctor may ask you to stop taking warfarin for a short time before the surgery. You will take enoxaparin to help prevent blood clots before the surgery. After the surgery, your doctor will tell you when it is safe to start taking warfarin again. This is called bridge therapy.
The medication Procrit is used to treat anemia(low red blood cell count) in people with long-term serious kidney disease ,people receiving chemotherapy for some types of cancer. It may also used in anemic patient to reduce the need for blood transfusions. Procrit works by signaling the bone marrow to make more red blood cells.
Instructed in new medication Tylenol to manage mild pain or fever. In addition, warned of possible S/E such as hemolytuc anemia, neutropenia, leukopenia, pancytopenia, liver damage, jaundice, hypoglycemia, rash and urticaria. Consult prescriber before giving drug to children younger than age 2. Tylenol is only for short-term use. Consult prescriber if it is given to children for longer than 5 days or adults for longer than 10 days. Instructed not to use for marked fever (higher than 103.1 F), fever persisting longer than 3 days, or recurrent fever unless it is directed by prescriber. Warned that high doses or unsupervised long-term use can cause hepatic damage. Excessive ingestion of alcohol may increase the risk of hepatotoxicity. Breast-feeding women: acetaminophen appears in breast milk in low levels (less than 1% of dose). Drug may be used safely if therapy is short-term and does not exceed recommended doses.
Normal intake of protein, fats and acidic food help calcium absorption, however high levels of these same sources increase calcium loss.
High levels of calcium can cause some adverse effects. Notify your doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, constipation, stomach pain, thirst, dry mouth, increased urination. PATIENT IS INSTRUCTED THAT Rather than avoiding vitamin K, PATIENT should maintain a consistent intake of vitamin K by maintaining a consistent diet. In other words, from week to week, you should eat the same types of foods. THERE ARE MANY FOOD RICH IN VITAMIN K SUCH AS green vegetables, especially leafy green vegetables, and certain oils have a high content of vitamin K. Most fruits, meats, dairy products, and grains are low in vitamin K.
Skilled nurse instructed patient about medication Dexamethasone is a corticosteroid that prevents the release of substances in the body that cause inflammation. Dexamethasone is also used to treat certain types of cancer. Your doctor may instruct you to follow a low-sodium, low-salt, potassium-rich, or high-protein diet. Follow these directions. Dexamethasone may cause an upset stomach. Take dexamethasone with food or milk. Dexamethasone may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away: upset stomach, stomach irritation, vomiting, headache, dizziness.
SN instructed patient / caregiver that the combination preparation fluticasone/salmeterol (Advair diskus) is a formulation containing fluticasone propionate and salmeterol xinafoate, used in the management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Commun side effect / adverse reaction may include: Body aches or pain, choking, congestion, dryness of the throat, high-pitched noise when breathing, hoarseness, runny nose, sneezing, trouble with swallowing, voice changes. Less common side effect / adverse reaction: Cough-producing mucus, flu-like symptoms, irritation or inflammation of the eye, muscle pain, pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones, sleep disorders, stuffy nose, white patches in the mouth or throat or on the tongue.
