Patient was instructed on pain management. Diabetes can destroy small blood vessels, which in turn can damage the nervous system, and these damaged nerves can cause pain. The pain arises from the nerves that are injured or malfunctioning that can be from the tip of the toe to the brain.
Patient was instructed on the signs and symptoms of hypotension that may happen in a few seconds or minutes of standing up after been sitting or lying down. It feel like fainting. Signs include: dizziness, blurry vision, confusion, weakness and nausea. Those symptoms go away if sitting or lying down for few minutes until the blood pressure adjusts to normal.
Patient was instructed on peripheral arterial disease that is a hardening of the arteries that prevents proper blood flow. The improper flow is one of the risk factors for foot ulcers, which can lead to amputation.
Patient was instructed on consequences of consuming alcohol having diabetes. Alcohol disrupts the liver
Patient was instructed on stress. In people with diabetes stress can alter blood glucose levels. To prevent stress form getting the best of the blood sugar get the stress under control by eating a healthy diet, getting adequate sleep, taking part in regular activity and learning relaxation techniques.
Patient was instructed on cardiovascular complications. Hyperglycemia (high blood glucose levels) can cause arteries to narrow and/or lose elasticity causing Atherosclerosis (CAD) where blockage occurs in the arteries that go to the heart.
Patient was instructed on the importance to have a good blood sugar control to avoid future diabetes complications: Monitoring: keep track of the blood sugar every day, Meals: Plan healthy and enjoyable meals to help keep the blood sugar near goal, Moves (exercise): moving the body help lower the blood sugar by burning it for energy, Medicine: when Meals and Move are not enough.
Patient was instructed on Hyperglycemia. The way diabetes is managed changes with age. Insulin production decrease because of age-related impairment of pancreatic beta cells. Additionally insulin resistance increase because of the loss of lean tissue and the accumulation of fat, particularly intra-abdominal fat, and the decreased tissue sensitivity to insulin.
Patient was instructed on Hyperglycemia. Glucose tolerance progressively declines with age, leading to a high prevalence of type 2 diabetes and post challenge hyperglycemia in the older population. Age-related glucose intolerance in humans is often accompanied by insulin.
