Bethanechol Teaching 1935

SN instructed patient / caregiver about Bethanechol. Sometimes given orally or subcutaneously to treat urinary retention resulting from general anesthetic, diabetic neuropathy of the bladder, or a side effect of antidepressants or to treat gastrointestinal atony (lack of muscular tone). Adverse reaction are rare following oral administration of Bethanechol, but are more common following subcutaneous injection. Adverse reactions are more likely to occur when dosage is increased. Adverse reactions that have been observed: Body as a Whole: malaise; Digestive: abdominal cramps or discomfort, colicky pain, nausea and belching, diarrhea, borborygmi, salivation; Renal: urinary urgency; Nervous System: headache; Cardiovascular: a fall in blood pressure with reflux tachycardia, vasomotor response; Skin: flushing producing a feeling of warmth, sensation of heat about the face, sweating; Respiratory: bronchial constriction, asthmatic attacks; Special Senses: lacrimation, miosis.

Ipratropium bromide / albuterol ( Duoneb ) Teaching 1940

SN instructed patient / caregiver about Ipratropium Bromide/Albuterol(Duoneb); get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Stop using albuterol and ipratropium and call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as: wheezing, choking, or other breathing problems,chest pain, pounding heartbeats or fluttering in your chest, dangerously high blood pressure (severe headache, anxiety, uneven heart beat), swelling of your ankles or feet, eye pain, or seeing halos around lights, painful or difficult urination. Other common side effects may include: mild headache, or cold symptoms such as stuffy nose, sneezing, cough, or sore throat.

Flonase Teaching 1943

SN instructed patient about Flonase ( Fluticasone). It is used to treat asthma, allergic rhinitis, nasal polyps, various skin disorders and Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. If taken correctly, the nasal spray and oral inhaler formulation have less corticosteroid side effects than the tablet formulation because they limit systemic absorption. However, if the spray or inhaler is used at higher than recommended doses or with other corticosteroids, serious side effects can occur. These systemic corticosteroid side effect include weakened immune system, increased risk of systemic infections, osteoporosis, and elevated pressure in the eyes. Nasal spray common side effects may include nasal irritation, HA, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, nosebleed, and cough. Rare side effects include painful white patches in nose or throat, sore throat, bruising , vision problems, swelling of face or neck, and difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Apixaban Teaching 1960

SN instructed patient about the Eliquis, also known as Apixaban is an anticoagulant. “ANTI” means against and “COAGULANT” refers to the clotting of blood. Apixaban is a medicine ordered by your doctor to prevent harmful blood clots from forming. It does not dissolve existing clots. Sometimes apixaban is referred to as a “blood thinner”, but it does not actually thin your blood. Apixaban is commonly prescribed to people with a heart rhythm problem called atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation increases the risk of a clot forming in the heart. A clot in the heart can dislodge and cause a stroke. The role of apixaban in patients with atrial fibrillation is to prevent formation of a clot in the heart and lower the risk of stroke. Tell your doctor right away if you have these side effects: Unusual bleeding: Vomiting blood or brown material that looks like coffee grounds, Bleeding from cuts that do not stop with pressure, Frequent bleeding from Coughing up blood gums, Nose bleeds, Black or red tarry stools, Bruises that appear without injury, blood in your urine, excessive vaginal bleeding / menstrual flow, Weakness, lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting Itching or hives, Swelling in your face, hands, mouth, or throat Difficulty breathing or chest tightness.

Linzess Teaching 1976

SN instructed patient about Linzess (linaclotide) which is indicated in adults for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with constipation. It can cause serious side effects, including diarrhea, the most common side effect, which can be severe. Diarrhea often begins within the first 2 weeks of treatment. Stop taking Linzess and call your doctor asap if you get severe diarrhea during treatment with Linzess. Other common side effect may include gas, stomach-area (abdominal) pain, swelling, or a feeling of fullness or pressure in your abdomen (distension). Tell your doctor if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away. Call your doctor or go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away if you develop unusual or severe stomach-area (abdominal) pain, especially if you also have bright red, bloody stools or black stools that look like tar.

Torsemide Teaching 2025

SN instructed that Torsemide is a loop diuretic. It works by making the kidney eliminate larger amounts of electrolytes ( especially sodium and potassium salts ) and water than normal ( diuretic effect ). It is used to treat edema ( swelling ) associated with heart, kidney, or liver failure, or with conditions in which there is excess body water. It is also used alone or with other medicines to treat high blood pressure. Torsemide may increase the amount of urine or cause you to urinate more often when you first start taking it. To keep this from disturbing your sleep, try to take your dose before 6 pm. If you also take cholestyramine, do not take it within 4 hours before or after taking torsemide. may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting; alcohol, hot weather, exercise, or fever may increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Sit or lie down at the first sign of any of these effects. Torsemide may affect your blood sugar. Check blood sugar levels closely. Weight should be monitored while taking this medication.

Doxycycline Teaching 2026

SN instructed that doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic. It fights bacteria in the body. Take doxycycline exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended. Take doxycycline with a full glass of water. Drink plenty of liquids while you are taking this medicine. Most brands of doxycycline may be taken with food or milk if the medicine upsets your stomach. Different brands of doxycycline may have different instructions about taking them with or without food. Take Oracea on an empty stomach, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.Call your doctor at once if you have: changes in your vision; severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody, fever, swollen glands, body aches, flu symptoms, weakness, skin rash, pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness; upper stomach pain ( may spread to your back ), loss of appetite, dark urine, jaundice ( yellowing of the skin or eyes ); chest pain, irregular heart rhythm, feeling short of breath; confusion, nausea and vomiting, swelling, rapid weight gain, little or no urinating; new or worsening cough with fever, trouble breathing;increased pressure inside the skull - skin pain, followed by a red or purple skin rash that spreads ( especially in the face or upper body ) and causes blistering and peeling. Severe headaches, ringing in your ears, dizziness, nausea, vision problems, pain behind your eyes; or severe skin reaction - fever, sore throat, swelling in your face or tongue, burning in your eyes.

Bystolic Teaching 2059

SN instructed patient / caregiver regarding medication Bystolic. SN explained to patient / caregiver that Bystolic is used to treat high blood pressure ( hypertension ). SN explained to patient that the side effects of this medication includes: headache, dizziness, tiredness, nausea, slow heartbeat and trouble sleeping. SN instructed patient / caregiver that if any of these effects persist or worsen, to notify physician.

Eliquis Teaching 2067

SN instructed patient that eliquis could cause bruising, internal bleeding, increased bleeding time so if any falls, severe cuts or unexplained pain or pain pressure call 911 anytime you think you may need emergency care. For example, call if: You cough up blood, you vomit blood or what looks like coffee grounds, you pass maroon or very bloody stools. Patient was able to be taught back.

Furosemide Teaching 2089

SN instructed patient regarding medication Furosemide. SN informed patient that Furosemide is used to treat fluid retention and high blood pressure and it causes increased urination. SN instructed patient to watch out for side effects of this medication such as headache, dizziness, blurred vision, constipation, diarrhea, and numbness / burning / tingly feeling and to notify physician ( MD ) if experiencing these side effects persistently. SN informed that Lasix may deplete potassium in the body, thus needing potassium supplement or increased potassium intake ( oranges, bananas ). SN instructed patient / caregiver to report to physician ( MD ) if patient experiences vomiting, fast / uneven heartbeat, lightheadedness or increased weakness, muscle pains, or urinating less or not at all.
