Approximately one-half of people who need dialysis have kidney disease from diabetes. With that, tight control of blood sugar must be done by avoiding concentrated sweets and high-carbohydrate content foods.Diabetic patients with hypertension
have a special lower blood pressure target of less than 130 / 80 mmHg to reduce cardiovascular risk and delay progression of kidney disease.
SN instructed patient about Latanoprost ophthalmic. This is used to treat glaucoma ( a condition in which increased pressure in the eye can lead to gradual loss of vision ) and ocular hypertension
( a condition which causes increased pressure in the eye ). Latanoprost is in a class of medications called prostaglandin analogs. It lowers pressure in the eye by increasing the flow of natural eye fluids out of the eye. Nurse instructed more frequents side effects of latanoprost ( stinging, burning, itching, watering or swelling of the eye, redness of the eyelids irritation, dry eyes, among others ).
Patient has Dx of hypertensive heart disease without heart failure. Hypertensive heart disease refers to heart conditions caused by high blood pressure. The heart working under increased pressure causes some different heart disorders. Hypertensive heart disease can cause thickening of the heart muscle, coronary artery disease, and other conditions such as heart failure if not controlled. Follow your MD's orders for diet and medications closely

SN instructed patient about High blood pressure. Normal blood pressure is when your blood pressure is lower than 120 / 80 mm / Hg most of the time. High blood pressure ( hypertension
) is when your blood pressure is 140 / 90 mm / Hg or above most of the time. SN explained that the "top number" systolic indicates the pressure in the vessels when the heart beats. The "bottom number" diastolic indicates the pressure in the vessels when the heart is at rest, to between beats. This number is the most concerning number because it tells your medical team the constant pressure on these vessels. Too high (over 80) can cause damage
