Patient was instructed on taking insulin on sick day. When becoming sick with a cold, or the flu, usual dose of insulin has to be taken, even if feeling too ill to eat. This is especially true if having nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
. Infection usually increases the body needs of insulin. Call the doctor for specific instructions. Continue taking insulin and try to stay in the regular meal plan.

SN instructed patient on liver failure. The early symptoms of liver failure are similar to symptoms of many other conditions. Because of this, liver failure may initially difficult to diagnose. Some of the most common initial symptoms of liver failure are: Nausea, Loss of appetite, fatigue, diarrhea
. As liver failure progresses, the symptoms become more serious. The most common symptoms of advanced liver failure include: Skin itchiness, jaundice, bleeding easily, bruising easily, swollen abdomen, mental disorientation or confusion, sweet or foul smelling breath, sleepiness, coma. Educated patient that the liver filters the Ammonia out the blood and that liver failure causes Ammonia levels to increase, which cause change of mental status, confusion, and sleepiness or fatigue.
SN instructed that should be call your doctor right away if you notice any of the following signs and symptoms of an infection: Fever ( this is sometimes the only sign of an infection ), chills and sweats, change in cough or a new cough, sore throat or new mouth sore, shortness of breath, nasal congestion, stiff neck, burning or pain with urination, unusual vaginal discharge or irritation, increased urination, redness, soreness, or swelling in any area, including surgical wounds and ports, diarrhea
, vomiting, pain in the abdomen or rectum, new onset of pain.
SN Instructed the patient about Colostomy Care and healthy eating. Healthy foods include: fruits, vegetables, whole - grain breads, low - fat dairy

Instructed patient caregiver avoid dehydration, you should try to drink 8 to 10 eight-ounce glasses of fluid a day. If you have diarrhea
, you may need more. Drinks such as Gatorade®, PowerAde, or Pedialyte contain potassium and sodium. But any liquid containing water (soda, milk, juice, tea, etc.) helps to meet your daily need for fluid.
SN instructed patient and caregiver about certain foods or eating habits are more likely to result in flushing, diarrhea
, gas, bloating, and abdominal pain related to carcinoid syndrome. You only need to avoid particular foods if they cause you to have these symptoms. Keeping a food and symptom diary may be helpful. Record your daily food and drink consumption and any symptoms that you experience. You may start to notice a pattern. Carcinoid patients with symptoms should augment protein in their diets, add more tryptophan in the form of lean meats and protein, and avoid high tyramine-containing foods, which can cause flushing, such as hard and aged cheeses, including cheddar and Stilton; cured meats; and some nuts, specifically walnuts, peanuts, coconuts, and Brazil nuts.
