Instructed patient that sugar levels may reach high limits causing complications.
Patient was instructed on hypertension. Other possible risk factors of high blood pressure include: low intake of potassium, magnesium and calcium. Sleep apnea and sleep disordered breathing, depression, cigarette smoking, high cholesterol or low HDL (good cholesterol), diabetes
.
Patient was instructed on chronic wound healing. That may be compromised by coexisting underlying conditions, such as, venous valve backflow, peripheral vascular disease, uncontrolled edema and diabetes
mellitus. It is important to remember that increased wound pain may be an indicator of wound complications that need treatment, and therefore practitioners may be constantly reassess the wound as well as the associated pain.
Patient was instructed on the signs and symptoms of hypotension that may happen in a few seconds or minutes of standing up after been sitting or lying down. It feel like fainting. Signs include: dizziness, blurry vision, confusion, weakness and nausea. Those symptoms go away if sitting or lying down for few minutes until the blood pressure adjusts to normal.
Patient was instructed on peripheral arterial disease that is a hardening of the arteries that prevents proper blood flow. The improper flow is one of the risk factors for foot ulcers, which can lead to amputation.
Patient was instructed on consequences of consuming alcohol having diabetes
. Alcohol disrupts the liver
Patient was instructed on cardiovascular complications. Hyperglycemia (high blood glucose levels) can cause arteries to narrow and/or lose elasticity causing Atherosclerosis (CAD) where blockage occurs in the arteries that go to the heart.
Instructed patient to contact doctor if any of the following occur: an illness lasting one or two days without improvement; vomiting/diarrhea that continue longer than 6 hours, blood tests that continue to run higher thatafter taking medications, S/S of high blood sugar.
Instructed patient to follow a healthy eating plan that includes his/her favorites foods, but with the proper number of calories and sugars that they should eat daily.
Instructed patient about the importance of remaining seated for at least minutes after each meal in order to prevent aspiration and accelerate gastric emptying.
